Classification & Compensation

The Classification & Compensation section is responsible for evaluating and classifying positions under the State Universities Civil Service System, and establishing and implementing policies and procedures related to compensation for Civil Service Staff. The staff works to achieve these objectives by providing the following specialized services.

  • review new/current positions for appropriate classification
  • assist departments in preparing and writing effective position descriptions
  • process salary increases
  • coordinate and monitor the Departmental Classification Program
  • recommend and implement changes to staff compensation plans
  • recommend the creation and/or revision of class specifications to the State Universities Civil Service System
  • establish and reevaluate salary grade assignments
  • conduct departmental reviews to assist the unit in its efforts to evaluate the appropriateness of the staffing levels of current positions within the unit
  • conduct and participate in salary surveys
